Responsible Use & Abuse Prevention
KYC Policy
This page explains TuxlerVPN Mobile’s position on Know-Your-Customer (“KYC”) verification for consumer use of the TuxlerVPN Mobile service. The short version: TuxlerVPN Mobile does not perform KYC on consumer users. This page records why, what we do collect instead, and the limited cases where account information may be reviewed.
What “KYC” means
KYC is the regulatory practice by which a service provider collects and verifies a customer’s identity using government-issued identification, biometrics, proof of address, tax identifiers, or similar documents. KYC is a feature of regulated industries (banking, money-services businesses, securities firms, and similar) operating under anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorism-financing regimes.
Our stance
For the consumer TuxlerVPN Mobile service, TuxlerVPN Mobile does not collect:
- Government-issued identification documents (passports, driving licences, national IDs)
- Biometric data (fingerprints, face scans, voice prints)
- Proof of address
- Social Security Numbers, national ID numbers, or other government identifiers
- Date of birth (other than the 18-or-older self-confirmation required by our Children’s Privacy policy and the Privacy Policy §9)
- Tax identification numbers
This list is consistent with Privacy Policy §2.8, which states that the TuxlerVPN Mobile Android app does not collect your name, address, phone number, or government identifiers, your precise location, your contacts or files, or your Google Advertising ID.
What we do collect instead
The data we process is the minimum we need to operate the Service. From Privacy Policy §2:
- Premium subscribers. The same app-instance UUID as Standard users, plus a Google Play purchase token used solely to verify entitlement against Google Play. No email is collected.
- Standard (free) users. A randomly generated app-instance UUID stored locally on your device on first launch. This UUID is not derived from, and cannot be linked to, your name, email address, phone number, advertising identifier, or any government identifier (Privacy Policy §2.1).
- Payment data. Handled entirely by Google Play Billing. TuxlerVPN Mobile does not store or process your full payment details (Privacy Policy §2.2).
- Customer support. When you email
[email protected]we collect the email address you write from, the contents of your message, and any information you choose to share (Privacy Policy §2.3).
Why we don’t perform KYC
TuxlerVPN Mobile is a consumer connectivity service distributed through Google Play. It is not a financial institution, money-services business, securities firm, or other entity to which AML/CFT KYC requirements apply in our operating jurisdiction (Panama) or in the consumer markets we reach through Google Play. Customer billing identification is handled by Google Play under its own Know-Your-Customer practices for purchasers. We receive only the entitlement information needed to verify a Premium subscription, not the underlying billing identity.
Operating without KYC is also consistent with the privacy posture set out in our Privacy Policy, that the Service should function with the minimum data necessary, and that VPN-session data should be discarded on disconnect.
Sanctions compliance
While we do not perform KYC ourselves, we comply with applicable sanctions requirements. In practice this means:
- Payments are processed through Google Play, which performs its own sanctions and compliance checks at the billing layer.
- Where we become aware of a credible sanctions issue affecting an account or use of the Service, we may suspend or terminate access. This is consistent with the Acceptable Use Policy §2.1, which prohibits use of the Services in violation of applicable export-control laws or in embargoed countries.
Limited identity review on abuse or legal process
Even though TuxlerVPN Mobile does not perform KYC, the limited information we hold (app-instance UUID, Google Play purchase token for Premium users, and support correspondence where you have written to us) may be reviewed where:
- We are investigating a credible report of abuse under the Acceptable Use Policy or Supported & Prohibited Use Cases.
- We are responding to valid legal process under our Law-Enforcement Request Policy.
- We are resolving a chargeback or refund dispute under the Refund & Payment Policy.
In each of these cases the information used is whatever is already in our records, not new identity data we collect from you.
Business and enterprise enquiries
TuxlerVPN Mobile currently focuses on consumer Android users via Google Play. If you represent a business or organisation that requires contractual identification of a counterparty (for example, a procurement-driven engagement), please contact [email protected] and we will consider what is appropriate on a case-by-case basis. Any business-driven identity collection would be subject to the same minimum-necessary and data-protection commitments described in the Privacy Policy and the Data Processing Overview.
