How to use TuxlerVPN Mobile for Android
This guide walks through everything the TuxlerVPN Mobile Android app does, from the first launch through the optional Premium upgrade.
1. Install the app
Install TuxlerVPN Mobile from the Google Play Store on any Android device running Android 7.0 or later.
2. First launch
When you open the app for the first time, you’ll see a splash screen (“Connecting to Tuxler’s Network”) while the list of available server countries and regions loads. If you don’t have an internet connection, you’ll see “Check your Internet connection.” Wait a moment and the app will retry.
Once loaded, the app drops you on the main screen with a large connection toggle.
3. Connect to a VPN server
Tap the big toggle on the main screen. The very first time you do this, you’ll be walked through a few short prompts:
- License agreement. Read and tap I agree.
- Permissions. Android will ask for a few things, including the standard “Connection request” dialog that grants TuxlerVPN Mobile permission to set up a VPN. Tap OK / Allow on each. Granting battery and notification permissions is optional but recommended so the tunnel stays up in the background.
- Connecting. The toggle turns yellow, then green: PROTECTED.
When you’re protected, your traffic is encrypted between your device and our gateway, and a persistent notification keeps the connection visible.
After the first connect, future taps skip the license/permissions and connect directly.
4. Choose your server location
Two dropdown selectors above the toggle let you pick:
- Country: defaults to “Any” (auto-pick from the available pool). Tap to choose a specific country.
- Region: defaults to “Any.” After choosing a country, tap to pick a specific region within it.
Selections are remembered across launches.
5. Disconnect
Three ways to disconnect:
- Tap the toggle in the app. It turns red: UNPROTECTED.
- Tap Disconnect on the persistent notification.
- Tap Quit App on the persistent notification (also exits the app entirely).
6. Upgrade to Premium
The free tier has limited bandwidth. Premium removes that limit. Your current limits are shown on the upgrade screen. See in-app for the exact values.
You can reach the upgrade screen two ways:
- On the main screen, double-tap the “Not Fast Enough?” promotional area.
- Open the side menu (icon top-left) and tap PREMIUM VERSION.
The upgrade screen lists the available subscription periods (typically 1 week through 1 year, with pricing from your Google Play Store that varies by region). Tap a plan and confirm in the Google Play Billing dialog. Once the purchase clears, the menu item changes to YOUR ACCOUNT and the app uses your premium gateway on the next connect.
Restore a previous purchase
If you reinstall the app or switch devices, your subscription is tied to your Google Play account. On the upgrade screen, tap RESTORE YOUR PURCHASE. If an active subscription is found, premium re-activates silently. If not, you’ll see “No active subscriptions found.”
7. Always-on VPN (recommended)
Android has a built-in feature called Always-on VPN that re-establishes the tunnel automatically whenever your device boots, switches networks, or wakes from sleep. With “Block connections without VPN” enabled in the same screen, Android refuses to send any traffic outside the tunnel, providing kill-switch-equivalent protection.
The app offers to set this up once it has noticed the tunnel dropping and reconnecting a couple of times — typically a sign your phone or network is interrupting the VPN. (You can also enable Always-on VPN at any time directly in Android’s VPN settings without waiting for the prompt; the steps are the same.) Tap TURN IT ON NOW to be deep-linked to Android’s VPN settings, then:
While always-on is enabled, Android keeps the tunnel up, so disconnecting from inside the app shows a guidance screen instead. To fully disconnect, turn off always-on in Android’s VPN settings.
8. Auto-start (Xiaomi only)
Xiaomi devices running MIUI aggressively kill background apps unless they’re explicitly whitelisted. On Xiaomi phones the app offers an auto-start setup prompt: tap TURN IT ON NOW, MIUI’s Security Center opens to its Auto-start screen, then toggle the switch next to TuxlerVPN to ON.
On non-Xiaomi devices (Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, Samsung, etc.) the prompt does not appear because the OEM-specific intent the app uses only works on MIUI. If your phone aggressively kills background tasks, enabling Always-on VPN (§7) is the supported workaround.

12. Troubleshooting
If something goes wrong, the app shows one of these messages:
| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| ”Check your Internet connection.” | The app couldn’t reach our servers on startup | Confirm Wi-Fi or mobile data is on and try again |
| ”VPN connections are not supported if a built-in VPN has the always-on feature enabled.” | Another VPN on your phone has always-on enabled | In Android Settings → Network → VPN, disable always-on for the other VPN |
| ”Unable to get permission to create VPN connections…” | The system VPN permission was declined, or another VPN is blocking it | Tap connect again, then tap OK when Android shows the connection-request dialog |
| ”Your device does not support VPN applications.” | Rare. Your device doesn’t support Android’s VPN feature | Contact your device manufacturer |
| ”No internet connection detected.” | No network is available | Re-enable Wi-Fi or mobile data |
| ”Cannot establish a connection with TuxlerVPN server.” | The selected server didn’t respond | Try a different country or region. If it persists, contact support |
| ”Error connecting to Google Play Store.” | The app couldn’t reach Google Play | Make sure Google Play Services is up to date and you’re signed in |
| ”No active subscriptions found.” | No purchase was found on your Google Play account | If you believe this is wrong, contact support with your order ID |
If you’re stuck, email [email protected]. Coverage is 24/7.
